How Do Same-Day Crowns Work?

Same-day crowns are made using advanced digital dentistry technology known as CEREC. Instead of taking messy impressions and sending them to a lab, our dentists use a digital scanner to create a precise 3D image of your tooth. This digital model is then used to design your custom crown, which is milled right in the office while you wait. Once it’s ready, the CEREC crown is bonded into place during the same visit.

What Is CEREC Technology?

CEREC stands for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics. It allows dentists to create strong, natural-looking ceramic crowns with exceptional accuracy. Since the crown is made on-site, there’s no need for a temporary crown or a second appointment. The ceramic material used is durable, biocompatible, and color-matched to blend seamlessly with your natural teeth.

Who Is a Candidate for a One-Visit Crown?

Many patients are excellent candidates for same-day crowns. This option is commonly used for cracked teeth, worn-down teeth, large cavities, or replacing old crowns. During your exam, our dentists will determine whether a same-day CEREC crown is appropriate based on the condition of your tooth and overall oral health. In most cases, if a traditional crown would work, a CEREC crown can too.
